I've been on this earth for twenty-six years now, and I honestly don't remember a time when I haven't been overweight. In November, 2010, I tipped the scales at a whopping 302.4 pounds, and it terrified me. I've been putting this off for too long. It's time to take control of my life and lose this weight.
Although I did weigh myself while I’ve been absent from Tumblr, it’s been over a month since my last official weigh-in. As far as the scale goes, the month has definitely been full of ups and downs. I gained three pounds after my in-laws’ visit from the many decadent restaurant meals we had. Plus. My husband’s only birthday request was red velvet cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory; my will power definitely went by the wayside. Miraculously, I managed to lose about 10 pounds, which isn’t too shabby, methinks!
Starting weight: 302.4 [11.1.2010]
Last month’s weight: 257.0 [02.10.2011]
Current weight: 246.2
Difference of: -10.8
Total lost: 56.2
Last month’s BMI: 40.2
Current BMI: 38.6
Goals for this week and the rest of the month: Make better use of my fitness equipment I have at home. These include free weights, kettle bells and balance balls. My husband recently started a new job in the town where we live. It’s awesome that he’s working, but I work in the town north of him and that’s also where my gym is. Since we carpool, I haven’t been able to make it to the gym in the last few weeks.
At the end of the month I plan on cancelling my current membership and to enroll at a gym near his office so we can go together. In the meantime, I have to remember that I have tools at home to stay active and healthy!
Okay. So. A month ago Friday, my husband challenged me to be completely free of social media for a month. That meant: no Facebook, no Tumblr, no Weddingbee (a wedding blog for which I write). I accepted, on the terms that were I to succeed, he had to take me to dinner at my favorite restaurant that’s normally a little too pricey for our budget.
It definitely wasn’t easy, but I did it. And I was granted a pass to post pictures of our new puppy (he’s too cute not to share) and to respond to any Facebook messages that required an immediate response. With only a few slip-ups that occurred on my lunch break at work, I spent the month disconnected.
While I agree that it is nice, occasionally, to have a break from constant connectivity, it’s also wonderful to be a part of such a lovely community. Seeing your daily updates is a part of that. I missed you while I was gone and I hope that everyone has had a fantastic, healthy month.
As for me? I’m doing great. I’m (unofficially… I’ll update all my stats on WIW) down to 246.4 lbs, which is a total loss of 56 lbs, my husband started a new job that he loves, I have an adorable and snuggly puppy, my in-laws visited for the first time since the wedding nearly a year ago (AND! I was able to wear my shoes they helped buy because I met my 50 lb loss goal), and I’m officially no longer wearing any size 20 or XXL.
Speaking of which, I have quite a few clothes that are up for grabs. They’re going through the wash now, pictures will be coming later. Anyone currently size 20, keep an eye out for anything you might want!
To my fitblr buddy: Thank you SO MUCH for your Valentine card and 30 Day Shred DVD. I loved it. I keep my card on the wall in my cubicle at work and it makes me happy all the time. I actually had a pass to come on and thank you, but our internet was out for a few days. I’m really sorry I didn’t say anything sooner. You’re so great :D
To everyone else who messaged me during my absence: Thank you for thinking about me! Your messages meant a lot to me, and they definitely made it harder to stay away from Tumblr! This is, for sure, the best group of people, evar.
Yesterday morning I was certain that it was Tuesday. While that’s great for making the week seem like it’s going by quickly, it’s not so great for my weekly Wednesday weigh ins! I’m a day late, but here goes:
Starting weight: 302.4 [11.1.2010]
Last week’s weight: 259.0 [2.2.2011]
Current weight: 257.0
Diference of: -2.0
Total lost: 45.4
Last week’s BMI: 40.6
Current BMI: 40.2
So, I didn’t meet my 3lb per week goal so that I could reach 250 by the time the in-laws come. I still believe I can do it, though! 3.5 lbs per week for the next two weeks is still doable; I just have to step up. I’m still having super gym anxiety, even though I feel great after I do go. Bleh.
For the first time since November I skipped lunch and snacks today. I haven’t eaten in 9 hours and I am STARVING. Seriously, I could eat everything in the fridge. Don’t worry, I won’t!
The power failure that allowed me to stay home from work yesterday isn’t scheduled to be fixed until the weekend, so I basically got a paid three days of vacation. Five day weekends should happen more often.
Unfortunately, my mom’s cat died today. It was incredibly sad and I spent the day with her and the cat, Delilah, until she passed. I really didn’t have much of an appetite after that. We found Delilah as a kitten only a few days after my brother passed away back in ‘95. She brought us a little bit of joy in a time filled with sadness. She was such a good kitty and will definitely be missed. : (
Electrical fire at work today= office building closed= free day home! Good thing, too… I was getting jealous of all those snow day statuses from my East Coast friends. We never get snow days in California!
Anyway. Some pictures of my face over the last year : ) Other than the photo from July which was a pretty unflattering picture, I don’t really see much of a difference. Though, today’s picture was the first and only that I took; usually I have to take a handful to find one that I’m pleased with.
I’m pretty happy with this week’s weigh in, considering I only got two workouts in this past week. The in-laws are coming to town on the 24th— my husband and I haven’t seen them since our wedding last May because they live in BC. My goal for the next few weeks is to reach 250 by then. As a Christmas gift, they gave me $100 to put toward my new running shoes (My 250/50lbs lost goal reward) and I’d love if I was able to wear them while they’re here. That means I need to lose around 3lbs per week, which is totally doable. I just need to work my butt off (literally lol?) in the gym.
